  1. I bought my first M-Edge Executive Jacket just over a year ago for my 1st-generation Kindle. I found the quality excellent, and although my Kindle doesn’t travel much, having it in a case which I can close up and feel that my Kindle is well protected whether just lying around the house or during travels is great peace of mind.

My DX cover just arrived this morning, and as expected, it appears to be another excellently constructed product. Just like the DX itself is to the Kindle, this cover is very much the “super-sized” version of my previous cover. It has the wonderfully soft exterior leather and cushioned interior with three small business card pockets and one larger pocket behind them. It also has a pen holder.

One improvement I noticed over my previous cover is that now both of the upper grips for the Kindle are elastic bands, where as before only the upper right was. The two lower corners of the device are held by little “pockets” for lack of a better word which provide sturdy, steady support for the DX. With the two elastic bands at the top, it’s easier for me to get my Kindle firmly into place. Because of the added size required to hold the DX, I was a bit worried about the weight, since the heavier an item is, the harder it will be for me to manipulate with my disability. But even with both the DX and it’s M-Edge cover, it seems to weigh little more than a full spiral-bound notebook, and significantly less than a textbook or reference book.

I have not seen the Amazon brand DX cover personally, but from what I’ve read, it is still as disappointing as the cover that came with my original Kindle. It’s just as well that Amazon has not included a standard cover this time, because for the very same price as the Amazon cover, I think most will find the M-Edge brand covers far superior in both form and functionality.

If you are a Kindle owner or are about to become one, I highly recommend that you give serious thought to the M-Edge covers. They will provide both the protection and the elegant style that I think you’ll want for your pricey but wonderful new toy.

  2. got mine by FEDEX today and i am very happy. The leather is thick and rich feeling, and the inside is very well tailored and completed. The regular black Amazon Kindle cover, which i have for my kindle 2, is not nearly as good. However, they are really two different covers. For those that just want a thinner cover, no frills and to keep the screen from scratching, you can go with the Amazon cover. It is lighter and thinner and no extra conveniences, but the leather doesnt even feel like leather. This cover is more convenienced, and can be used to take to a meeting to view files that you may have sent from your computer. It also has a flap for business cards, a few pieces of paper and a pen holder. The one caveat, this Kindle DX is larger and heavier and the accompanying covers are larger and heavier. for those that bought a Kindle just because they are thin and light, this new Kindle DX with a cover may start to mildly irritate you due to weight.

  3. When I first put this Medge cover on my new Kindle DX I was a little disappointed. You can’t fold it back as tightly as the Amazon cover I had on my Kindle 2. This is a much more substantial cover than the one offered by Amazon, and bulkier. However, the more I’ve used it, the more I like it. The quality is outstanding. It smells and fells like high quality leather. You can open it up to a 90 degree angle and it props up the DX. It is easier to take in and out. For the price I recommend it for anyone wanting to protect their DX, and who is willing to live with a heavier cover.

  4. I purchased this at the same time I purchased my Kindle DX, both with the idea of protecting the large investment I had in my DX, and to make it easier to carry around. After using it for almost 2 months now, it is definitely making it easier to carry it around, and also to use – I never take it out of it. I read with it still in the jacket. As far as protection, it certainly protects the screen from being scratched and scuffed, and if it were dropped, I’m also sure that it would help to cushion the blow.

As much as this Jacket costs, I think it is still a small price to pay to help protect the high cost Kindle DX that we all love so much!! I will try to update this after about a year and see how this Jacket holds up. For now though, I do highly recommend it.

  5. G. Wendt says:

Materials are OK. Leather is nice and the suede interior is OK. The closing latch is the pits and could be much better. I presume after some use the leather flap used to insert into the cover is going to be to soft to push in. It is already difficult after just 2 weeks. A magnet closure like cell phone holsters would be much better. Even Velcro would be better.

Interior pockets are useless for an electronic book – can’t think of what I would ever use it for. After reviewing other covers that are available I am not sure what I would buy in it’s place? Probably just go for inexpensive. My wife has a great cover for her Kindle 1, but it is not available for the DX
